Clash of Cultures, The Picture Version

Alright.  I've written a bit about cultural assumptions and the likes, and as hard as it is for me to not just write forever and ever and think and ponder and make you read WAY too much, I've tried to just do a picture post regarding cultural assumptions, both United Kingdom/England and American.

My (American) Assumptions of British Culture

(And when I say British, I predominantly mean English, an important distinction.)

1. Everyone loves a British Accent.

(Someone today did say they were boring. Not to me!)

2. Tea drinking non stop.
#truth

 3. It would be foggy and rainy.
 Cambridge Fog

4. It would be like Harry Potter (well, buildings and capes...)

(Cambridge Building)

 (Cambridge wears capes gowns.)

5. I would meet a few Hyacinth's.

(She's a rare bird.)

6. We speak the same language and eat the same food.

Both true and false at the same time.  My friend sent this to me today and it is spot on and I kind of wish I would have had it on day one.  Thank goodness for patient friends who translate!

When asked about America, some UK people responded with:

One friend said, "beaches".  This is of Hilton Head, SC.

Kaanapali, Hawaii

South Padre Island, Texas

Another said, "A large person eating."
To try and be neutral, we'll let Patrick from SpongeBob cover this territory.

But then in all honesty, America - we made this:

And this:

One said that she thinks of the introduction to this song:

And thanks to our recent appearance in the Olympic Opening Ceremony, these jumpers:

One other person said that when he visited America, it was like being on a movie set.  He'd seen so many movies with American landscapes and cityscapes, that once in the city or land, it all felt vaguely familiar.

Here are some other ideas of what America is like:

FYI This is a VILLAIN.

(I LOVE THIS ONE!)

And just as some of their assumptions had me doing this,

I imagine my assumptions felt about the same.

Some Things in Common:

1. Men in Makeup

2 & 3. The Office & Dancing

4. I don't have a picture, but crazy weather...like horribly, rainy, cold, and dark to sun shining like crazy.  (Except the temps don't go as crazy like GA or TX)

5. Bowties.

In conclusion, this song sums up how I feel about sharing in each other's traditions and cultures.

"What's Mine is Yours" - All Dogs Go to Heaven

What's mine is yours
What's yours is mine
The more you share
The more the sun'll shine

Everybody!

What's mine is yours

Whether you're the boss
Or someone's pet
The more you give
The more you're gonna get

You got a little or a lot
You got to share cause you know what
Each other's all that we have got
The sun'll shine if you share all the time
